A trans man and his wife are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child, a baby girl, after successfully conceiving through in vitro fertilization (IVF) utilizing eggs he preserved before beginning his gender transition.
Taylor Winters, 42, and his wife, Chloe, 33, a social media manager from Watford, Hertfordshire, are set to welcome their daughter in the new year. Their journey to parenthood combined modern reproductive science with a deeply personal family-building plan, allowing Taylor to maintain a biological connection to their child while avoiding pregnancy, which did not align with his identity.

Taylor, who grew up in Transylvania, Romania, always felt a profound sense of himself as a boy from a very young age. Reflecting on his childhood, he recalls telling his parents he was a boy from the age of five. He would cut his hair short, adamantly refuse to wear skirts, and tried to imitate boys. Fortunately, he says, his parents were supportive of him during his formative years.
As he grew older, his path took him across Europe. In March 2014, he moved to Germany with his then-partner. When that relationship eventually ended, Taylor relocated to the United Kingdom in March 2015, seeking a fresh start and a clearer path toward living authentically.
Upon settling in the UK, Taylor began actively researching and pursuing gender-affirming care. He met Chloe in 2016, and she played a supportive role as he navigated the complex medical and psychological landscape of transition. Following comprehensive psychological assessments and medical evaluations, Taylor began undergoing hormone replacement therapy, starting testosterone in November 2017 at the age of 34.

The physical and psychological changes that followed were deeply validating for Taylor. He has described the experience of growing a beard, hearing his voice drop, and undergoing top surgery in October 2019 as profoundly liberating. Later, he underwent a hysterectomy in November 2023. For Taylor, these milestones brought a sense of wholeness and relief, particularly the freedom to live without hiding his chest.
However, long before he took his first dose of testosterone, Taylor faced a pivotal decision regarding his future family. He had always envisioned being a parent, but he knew he never saw himself carrying a pregnancy. To preserve his dream of having biological children, Taylor made the proactive choice to freeze his eggs before starting his medical transition.
In the years that followed, Taylor and Chloe built a stable life together, and by 2022, they began looking into expanding their family. They were matched with a sperm donor, setting the stage for their eventual fertility treatments. In February 2026, the couple officially began their IVF journey, an endeavor costing over $9,000, using Taylor’s frozen eggs and the sperm donor.

Because the IVF process required careful biological preparation, Chloe noted that they had to undergo hormone treatments for several weeks before the medical procedures could formally begin. In March 2026, they underwent their first round of IVF. Following the fertilization process, the clinic evaluated and selected the best-graded embryos for implantation.
Like many couples undergoing fertility treatments, they faced the nerve-wracking waiting period mandated by their clinic to determine whether the transfer had been successful. Unfortunately, the first round did not result in a pregnancy. Chloe recalled feeling crushed by the initial setback, noting that she had to wait for her menstrual cycle to return and restart hormone medications before trying again.
Despite the disappointment, the couple remained determined not to let time slip away and opted to try a second round of IVF shortly thereafter. In May 2026, during their second attempt, the transfer was successful, and Chloe became pregnant.

The morning of the pregnancy test brought a mix of nerves and anticipation. Unable to sleep the night before, Chloe and Taylor woke up around 5 a.m. and decided it was time to check the result. Discovering that the test was positive brought an overwhelming wave of joy, especially after the heartbreak of their first attempt.
Now 24 weeks pregnant, Chloe says the pregnancy has been progressing exceptionally well. The couple has documented the journey by recording updates every two weeks as the baby bump grows, cherishing every milestone, from reviewing ultrasound scans to hearing their daughter’s heartbeat. Taylor has been actively involved every step of the way, attending every medical appointment and supporting Chloe through the physical realities of pregnancy.
Looking beyond the arrival of their baby girl in January 2027, the couple already has plans for their future family. They intend to utilize Chloe’s eggs with the same sperm donor for a subsequent pregnancy, ensuring that both partners have a direct biological connection to their children.

Reflecting on their path to parenthood, Chloe emphasized that their family dynamic is rooted in the same desires and values as any other couple. She noted that having access to IVF has been a tremendous blessing and expressed hope that their story highlights how transgender individuals can build happy, healthy, and loving families with the support of dedicated partners and loved ones.
