Trans Man and Wife Expecting First Child After IVF Using Pre-Transition Eggs and Sperm Donor

A trans man and his wife are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child, an IVF journey that has brought together medical science, family planning, and a deeply personal path to parenthood. Taylor Winters, 42, and his wife, Chloe, 33, are expecting a baby girl in the new year after utilizing eggs Taylor froze before beginning his gender-transition process, combined with a sperm donor and carried in Chloe’s womb.

The couple, who reside in the United Kingdom, successfully conceived after their second round of in vitro fertilization (IVF) earlier this year. Their story highlights the evolving landscape of modern fertility treatments and the diverse ways in which loving couples build families today.

Taylor, who was born female, grew up knowing from a very young age that his gender identity did not align with his assigned sex at birth. Growing up in Transylvania, Romania, he recalls feeling “like a boy” from the age of five. Even as a young child, he sought to express his true self by cutting his hair short, refusing to wear skirts, and adopting traditionally masculine behaviors. Fortunately, he says his parents were supportive of him during his childhood.

As he grew older, Taylor’s path took him across Europe. He moved to Germany in March 2014 with his then-partner. However, when that relationship ultimately broke down, Taylor relocated to the United Kingdom in March 2015 to start a new chapter of his life. Settling in the UK provided him with the environment and resources he needed to seriously explore gender-transitioning procedures.

Following extensive psychological assessments, counseling, and medical testing required by healthcare providers, Taylor officially began taking testosterone in November 2017 at the age of 34. The physical changes that followed brought a profound sense of alignment and relief. He describes the experience of growing a beard and hearing his voice drop as exciting, and notes that undergoing top surgery in October 2019 made him finally feel “whole.” For Taylor, shedding the physical reminders of his assigned gender was a liberating experience. It meant no longer having to hide his chest or wear a binder, and finally feeling comfortable going to the beach. He later underwent a hysterectomy in November 2023.

However, long before he began taking hormones or undergoing surgeries, Taylor faced a pivotal decision regarding his future. He had always harbored a strong desire to become a parent one day, though he never envisioned himself carrying a pregnancy. To preserve his parental options, Taylor made the proactive choice to freeze his eggs prior to starting testosterone therapy.

In 2016, a year after moving to the UK, Taylor met Chloe. The two formed a deep connection, and Chloe supported Taylor through every step of his medical and personal transition. Over time, the couple began discussing their shared dream of starting a family. Because they both valued the idea of biological connection, they began mapping out an IVF strategy that would allow them to use Taylor’s frozen eggs.

By 2022, the couple had successfully matched with a sperm donor. With the logistical framework in place, they officially began the medical IVF process in February 2026. The procedures required careful hormonal preparation. Chloe, a social media manager based in Watford, Hertfordshire, explained that she had to undergo hormone treatments for several weeks before the clinic would permit the actual IVF transfer to begin.

The financial and emotional investment was substantial, with the initial fertility treatments costing upward of $9,000. In March 2026, the couple underwent their first embryo transfer. After the eggs were fertilized and evaluated, the medical team selected the best-graded embryos for implantation. Then began the anxious waiting period. At their clinic, patients must wait 11 days following a transfer to take a pregnancy test and determine whether the procedure was successful.

Unfortunately, the first round of IVF did not result in a pregnancy. Both Taylor and Chloe were devastated by the news, feeling completely crushed after weeks of anticipation and preparation. However, rather than letting discouragement stall their plans, the couple channeled their disappointment into resilience. They were determined not to let time slip away and opted to try again immediately. Chloe had to wait for her menstrual cycle to return before restarting the necessary hormone regimen for a second round.

In May 2026, they underwent their second embryo transfer. Once again, they faced the grueling 11-day wait. On the morning of the test, sleep had eluded them both. Unable to wait any longer, they woke up around 5:00 a.m. and decided it was time to check the result.

This time, the news was triumphant. The test confirmed that Chloe was pregnant. The emotional high of the positive result was amplified by the memory of the heartbreak they had experienced just months earlier.

Now, Chloe is 24 weeks along and reports that the pregnancy has been progressing remarkably well. The couple has embraced every milestone of the journey, from watching the baby’s heartbeat on early scans to recording a video every two weeks to document the physical changes of Chloe’s growing baby bump. They are currently preparing to welcome their daughter in January 2027.

Reflecting on the journey, Taylor emphasizes that while he always wanted biological children, he never wanted to experience pregnancy himself. By utilizing his frozen eggs carried in Chloe’s womb, they found a path that honored both of their desires. The couple also has future plans to utilize Chloe’s eggs in subsequent IVF cycles, ensuring that both partners will eventually have a direct biological connection to their children.

Chloe notes that having a family of her own was a lifelong dream since childhood. For them, turning to IVF and building a family through assisted reproduction felt entirely natural, emphasizing that their family dynamic is grounded in the same love, commitment, and desire for parenthood as any other couple. They credit their strong support system of family and friends for providing a welcoming environment where their children can grow up accepted for who they are. They also hope their story demonstrates that transgender individuals can cultivate happy, healthy, and fulfilling family lives.

As they count down the months until the baby’s arrival, Taylor has been a constant presence, attending every medical appointment and supporting Chloe through the physical demands of pregnancy. For the expectant parents, the long, winding road from pre-transition preservation to pregnancy has ultimately led to a place of profound joy, culminating in the anticipation of holding their baby girl for the very first time.
